Regular visitors to our shop will recognise – by smell if not by sight – our Giardino candle, created especially for us by longstanding supplier Cire Trudon, the world’s oldest wax-producing manufacturer. Founded in 1643, Cire Trudon supplied candles to the royal court of Louis XIV, as well as most of the great churches of France.
Presented in an emerald green, hand-blown glass container and emblazoned with our Indian elephant crest, the candle encompasses the experience of wandering through a Victorian greenhouse. The smell of cut grass floating in from the garden outside, vetiver tatties hanging from the walls and flowers everywhere; freesias, lily of the valley, rose, and wisteria. A blend of floral and earthy notes evokes the English country garden as well as the temples of India.
Its distinctive scent has been bewitching customers and staff alike over the years – once you have enjoyed the scent in your home, it’s hard to be without it. Many of our customers who have travelled from overseas will stock up when they come to visit us. No supper club or wedding banquet in our glasshouse is complete without it.
The wax is composed of natural vegetable oils and the candlewicks are woven from pure cotton. The candle burns for up to 80 hours and can perfume even the largest of indoor spaces. They can be purchased in both our Richmond and Covent Garden shops, or from our website.
